Decathlon collaborated with champion SĂ©an Garnier to co-create the Kipsta Barrio shoe. The purchase of this shoe grants access to an NFT which allows customers to enter Decathlon's locker room and the Barrio Club NFT. The aim of this initiative is to create a community around the product. Additionally, a digital twin of the shoe was created, enabling customers to "wear" their shoes in the virtual universe of The Sandbox.
In terms of features, the NFT allowed customers to participate in an exchange with SĂ©an Garnier and to be solicited for their opinions on the color choices for upcoming models. Moreover, the NFTs were easily traded among customers, at a cost of around 10 to 20 euros, depending on the fluctuations of Tezos.
Decathlon also plans to organize other similar experiences to the Barrio Club, particularly in the cycling universe. For example, 60 Rockrider jerseys will be sold during two major races, including the Rock Azur, accompanied by an NFT. Another series of 1000 NFTs will be issued for the brand's fans, who can find them through a geocaching system, similar to Pokémon Go.
